Document Summary

Lecture 8: t cell activation, differentiation, and functions. Integrins --> higher affinity interactions with the ligand and are involved in stopping the t cells on the endothelium. Interact with various ligand: cd34 of glycan 1 on vascular epithelium at the site of hev, madcam-1 on mucosal sites (peyer"s patches) Induces a signaling within the t cell that activates an integrin molecule that is expressed on na ve t cells -- lfa-1 will be activated. Integrins are a bit different from selectins in that they are usually heterodimers. Vcam-1 with vla 4 at sites of infection. Interaction combined with others stop the t cell that can then transmigrate through the epithelium. Activation of t cells changes the expression of cell-surface molecules: between na ve t cells and activated or effector t cells they have different patterns of expression of different molecules.
