Cchs (canadian community health survey): health related survey for information on food intake/physical activity/etc. Canadian diet are lacking portions in several food groups but eat meat. Chronic disease: develops slowly, last a long time (cancer, heart disease, stroke) - good nutrition can reduce your risk of chronic disease. Essential nutrient: essential to human life, must be provided by the diet. If nutrients are absent from diet, you will develop deficiency symptoms/illness/death. Amino acids: compounds that are the building blocks of proteins. Energy: support basal metabolism and physical activity, both fat and carbs are sources. Kcalorie content of macros: 4kcal/g for carbs, 9kcal/g for fat, 4kcal/g for protein, 7kcal/g for alcohol (know these numbers) Triglyceride/triaglycerol: major chemical form of lipids in foods.
