Adult is dominated by issues from that stage & will retreat there in times of stress, regression. The more libido left over for the genital stage, the more mature the individual will become. Key ideas: interaction of the id, ego & supergeo. Because the mind is divided into 3 parts, the mind can be in psychic conflict with itself. The ego s main job is compromise formation, i. e. , find a way to satisfy the id s desires within the bounds of society. A well balanced mind is free from anxiety, which is achieved by having a strong ego that balances the id and the superego. An unpleasant state that can range from a vague and uneasy sense that something is wrong to debilitating terror. Fear occurs in response to a real, external threat to the person. Direct conflict between the id and the ego. Direct conflict between the ego and the superego.
