Laws are a set of rules imposed by the government. - 3 types of law makers: parliament, provincial parliament and counsellors. There are consequences to breaking ethical guidelines: ethical guidelines not rules, significant gray area in regards to ethics because of guidelines not rules, wide reaching implications, client is #1 priority. If client murders people, you ethically should not tell anyone. #1 ethical guideline: hippocratic oath to do no harm. If you do, you can lose ur licence as a psychologist: legally you don"t have to convey knowledge of illegal activity if you have. If they are not liable thy are not responsible for actions: courts decide sane or insane. If person is legally insane: the person is no longer part of the legal system. They are shipped to psychiatric ward: actus rea: wrong behaviour, mens rea: wrong thoughts. A person who has to competency and intent. 3 levels of law: constitutional law-takes precedence over other 2 levels of law.
