Document Summary
Simultaneous activation of 2 neurons promotes structural changes in synapse b/w the 2 neurons (i. e. ltp: a & b fire together repeatedly a requires less energy to activate b. Links behaviours cognition: repeated behaviours cause structural changes in our brain (cognition) Multiple firing structural changes: reduces space in the synapse, creates more receptors (require fewer neurotransmitters to induce the effect) Increased firing of specific pattern of neurons (the change) , after multiple repetitions of firing (after learning) Pulls old ltm information out into stm changes the memory. Demonstrates the constant communication b/w stm & ltm. Synaptic consolidation: structural changes occurring at the synapse. Light (easily disrupted: breaks down more easily. From accumulation of synaptic consolidations: many synaptic consolidations systems consolidation. Heavy (heavy duty- not easily susceptible to change: lasts much longer. Experimental paradigm: taught random tapping patterns, recorded post-training abilities. Conditions: group 1 training 10am. Retest 2 (10am: group 2 training (10pm)
