In 2014, approximately 101,000 youth (12-17 years old) were accused of police-reported. 7% of the canadian population, but 13% of accused persons. Rate of youth accused of crimes (4,322 per 100,000) was 1. 8 times higher than the rate of adults accused (2,452 per 100,000) Volume and severity of youth crime has declined (42% in 2014, compared to 34% overall crime) This is true for all types of criminal code offenses with the exception of drug charges (more are being charged with marijuana possession now) 80% of the drug offences are committed by youth. As seen in the graph, crime rates are negatively skewed. All of these offenses are reported to the police. The peak at which individuals were accused of crimes was 17 years old. Lowest rate of crime for youth was 12 years old. The most crime committed by youth are property crimes. Involves mischief interfering with someone else"s property (vandalization)
