PSY435H1 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: 2Degrees, Tropical Disease, Biotic Material
Document Summary
If we destabilize the global context, solutions will be difficult to apply. Destabilize large scale, any stabilization on a small scale will have to be incredibly stable to withstand the large scale: climate change sun"s radiation. Change ratio of energy in and energy out, change temperature. Ultraviolet radiation is turned into infrared radiation as it warms. It affects molecules in the atmosphere that traps heat: methane traps more heat than co2. Methane not as well-known publicly, so co2 is seen as more dangerous in the public"s eye. But methane is more deadly: we underappreciate the role of a positive feedback loop leading to projections for how bad the environment will be in the future to be severely optimistic, understanding positive feedback loops is really important. Spiked in last few decades: waters hold a lot of heat, leading to a lag. When that is released, there will be worse things happening environmentally.
