Predation, parasitism, herbivory one benefits, other loses out. Amensalism one is being harmed, but nothing happens to the other. Evolution favours things that enhance survival and reproduction. Evolution drives mutualism to occur and lessens competition. Selection will not favour organisms involved in severe competition.
