Outsider within there are particular experiences that women of colour are able to access from their particular standpoint to critique dominant sociological ideas based solely upon experiences of non-marginalized groups. Standpoint being marginalized but also within particular spaces (family, home, sociology) As domestic workers, they experience within" status by working in white families homes, but simultaneously invisible. As a female sociologist, she can challenge the institution. Lorde: it is the responsibility of the marginalized people to educate the dominant group, but this identity should only be temporary. A key concept from intersectional theorizing: standpoint epistemology (ways of knowing) Collins values the ways of knowing that we have, which come from our particular standpoint in society"s hierarchy. Challenging the status quo that some types of knowledge (objective, science, etc. ) are more valuable than others.
