Peripheral nervous system located outside of the brain(skull) and spine cns, carries information to and from the cns. Causes your body to be able to move. Somatic nervous system afferent nerves- carries information to the cns: efferent nerves efferent nerves- carries information from the cns to (sensory) arrives at cns other body parts (motor) exits cns. Automatic nervous system sympathetic / parasympathetic cord slows opposite effects (ex. Speeding and slowing of heartbeat: both sympathetic and parasympathetic nerves are efferent, typically have, neurons synapse of another neuron before reaching the target organ, sympathetic neurons originate in thoracic and lumbar regions of the spinal. Target organs heart, lungs, blood vessels, pupils dilate, digestion: parasympathetic neurons originate in the cervical and sacral regions of the spinal cord. Resting and restoring responses: sometimes parasympathetic cannot bring down sympathetic and it causes long term effects. Top of the head dorsal or superior. Frontal (coronal) slicing bread from front to back on top of head.
