People are dying left and right because of diseases like chicken pox, measles etc. The mercantilism system was the system that governed all these colonies. European countries are trying to assert power and be the best empire. Mercantilism is a way to set up empires. Basically what it is, is the people in the new world get raw goods ship them to the empire to be made into goods and then it"ll be sold back to them. Mercantilism allowed these empires to become wealthy beyond means because of their trading and tariffs. Empires were always trying to export more goods than they were trying to import.
