Document Summary

Topic 12: acetyl-coa 2: fatty acids, ketone bodies, and biosynthesis. Release of acetyl-coa from fatty acid storage: low glucose conditions, beta fatty acid is just taking a fatty acid and breaking it down into acetyl-coa. Triacylglycerol breakdown in adipocyte triacylglycerol is stored in adipocytes. Products of triacylglycerol breakdown: lipase breaks these down, break of the fatty acid chains that can be release in the blood stream to make acetyl-coa which is good for feeding into citric acids cycle to make atp. Insulin (lots of glucose) turns off lipase: lipase is sensitive to hormones, glucagon (glucose is absent) turns on lipase because need more energy from fat storage. Products of triacylglycerol breakdown: fatty acids are broken down via beta oxidation and broken down into acetyl- Fadh2 coming out: only get 7 of these out because only go through 7 cycles (if u have a rope and want to cut into 8 segments only have 7 times)
