Document Summary
Overview: bioinformatics: the science of using computational methods to decipher the biological meaning of information contained within organismal systems. Use of technology to study genetics, such as computers, internets, online databanks & digital tools of any sort to understand dna, rna, amino acids, proteins & their structures, folding patterns, mutations, diversity & molecular data of any sort. David"s story: he"s a bioinformatician, but horrible with computers. Can"t do design softwares & bad with hardwares, horrible with computer programming, but <3 molecular sequencing data: he sequenced green algal chloroplast genomes. Did a lot of bench work, commercial sequencing with a lot of genetic data. Sat for hours assembling and analyzing chloroplast genomes: user-friendly bioinformatic tools. Before: a shit load of command-lines, horrible for poor david. Now: graphical user interphase (gui) is used, and david"s pretty happy with it, but both styles are popular. Keeps bioinformatics in the hands of experts. Runs slower, can be counted via better computers.
