Biology 3338A Lecture Notes - Lecture 13: Pharyngeal Arch, Neural Tube, Cranial Nerves
Document Summary
Neural crest cells -the forth germ layer pgs 375-393. Bmps and wnts play a role in inducing, pax3 in border delineation, Snail as a specifier, and rho as an effector. Bmps activate wnts to trigger emt (vs met in somites). Nc migrate extensively and give rise to many tissue types. Migratory cells begin to express snail and rhob proteins. Snail (/slug) activates proteins that break cell-cell junctions. Rho gtpases helps express cytoskeletal proteins needed for migratory movements. Other initial signals are also needed (bmp, fgf, wnt: cranial nc 2) cardiac nc, trunk nc 4) vagal and sacral nc. There are 2 main trunk nc migratory paths - ventral and dorsolateral. Dorsolateral migrating trunk nc pass between the epidermis dermamyotome. Ventral trunk nc migrate along anterior half of sclerotome. Trunk nc - dorsolateral - between the epidermis & dermamyotome, ventral migrate through anterior half of sclerotome. Permissive molecules on anterior half eg fibronectin, laminin.
