Counter this and maintain low entropy, cells bring in energy and raw material to build more cellular structures. Need food and energy to rebuild the molecules that have been broken down due to entropy. Living-beings increase the entropy of the universe by releasing heat and waste (co2) Dna and proteins are a highly ordered structure, we need to bring in energy and matter to maintain that structure (maintain low entropy). Energy that is available to be used to do work.
