Lecture 12 (prokaryotic) gene structure/expression 02/10/16: relative location of such dna sequence signals as promoter, 5" and 3" utr, sd box , start codon, stop codon, transcription terminator etc. The promoters are the sq just upstream of the coding part of the gene. Pcg have a region in which after transcription there are regions that get translated (in red). And another kind of information stored in dna is called regulatory info. On the right side is where the coding part of the gene is. Start point indicates location of where transcription begins. Promoters are not transcribed (at least for 1st year bio there are no exception). The promoter region on the left is upstream of the start point of transcription. Green and black arrows indicate the regions that seem to matter to the. They are the dna bases that come into contact with the polymerase. They tend to cluster around a sq called -10 & -35.
