Document Summary

Oogenesis: oocyte development is halted at prophase i (meiosis i) after mitosis from oogonia . 2nd oocyte (after meiosis i) and arrest here. Unless fertilized, it will not complete meiosis ii 1 ovum + 2 polar bodies (1 polar body from completion of meiosis i and this polar body becomes 2 polar bodies after meiosis ii). Viviparous: mammal in which offspring develop within uterus. Secretin: secreted by some duodenal cells stimulate pancreas to produce bicarbonate (neutralize chyme in duodenum). Enterogastrone is made in duodenum and when fatty food present slow down stomach muscular movement (probably close pyloric sphincter) (slow peristalsis). Umbilical vein: carries oblood from placenta to fetus. Foramen ovale: allows blood to bypass pulmonary circulation since there is no gas exchange in fetal lung. Ductus arteriosus: allows bypass of fetal pulmonary circulation (pulmonary artery aorta). Ductus venosus allows blood to bypass the liver.
