Some vertebrates that lvie in association with ocean drink salt water. Kidneys do some work, but they still intake lots of nacl. Birds and reptiles you see salt glands; located above eyes, on top of head. They are made up lobes and in middle of each lobe is a canal. Thye secrete nacl into the canals and then fluid drains out of nasal cavity. So if you are by ocean, you will see gull; little drops of water on tip of beak. Have salt glands sit around on rocks all day and seeze liquid. Table with marine reptiles; and na concentration of salt gland secretions: half the total osmolarity, sodium and chloride is about 2000 mm. Terrestial animals must balance their water budget: income = loss + storage. Loss = evaporation, urin, feces, salt glands. Land animals are at a constant risk of dehydration. They have to balance water budget all the time.
