These hormones get metabolized: ex. not only looking for testosterone, also looking at metabolized products of testosterone, can sample for these hormones, specifically steroids, in blood and urine, other tissues or samples, fat stores, fecal samples (main source) Frog hormones: estrone (primary estrogen in frogs) Frogs caught by hand and urine collected via catheter: regular trips (10 times over 2 years) over different seasons, also measured, weighed, etc, enzyme immunoassays designed for a more common frog.
