The following are some main points about alexandria, egypt: Alexandria was founded in 331 bce by alexander the great when he took it from the persians. The story of how he developed the city was by taking barley and dribbling it on the ground in the outline of how he wanted the city to be. Afterwards, birds ate the barley which some people took as a bad omen. The city was further developed by ptolemy i and ii after alexander had passed. They turned it into a center for learning and culture: specifically, ptolemy ii (3rd century bc) ruled when alexandria underwent a period of expanse; during this time, pharos the light house, the museum, and the library were built. This made alexandria an important centre of artistic and cultural life.
