Throw readers in the middle of the things. The aeneid= myth + history; it is also there to justify the history of rome and the human world history. The aeneid has a strong political purpose praise. The aeneid = the iliad (the 7 to 12: fights against a local tribe )+ the odysseys (first 6 books: he is trying to make his way to rome) Some events and characters in this work pre-figure the history (the aeneid~~ Augustus: augustus is only possible because he is paved the way by the aeneid) There is a deliberate confusion between the history and myth. Book 1: very end, when aeneid arrived at carthage: Venus tells aeneid: page 408, line 440: the story of the queen, the city where he has landed. Both aeneid and dido are refugees : leave their original places for political reasons. They are linked in term of their mythical biography.
