Codecs depend on the file format (there is one particular codec that may be more adaptable than another) Compression strategies: pick a codec that does higher compression, lower the picture quality of the video. Two types of compression strategies: spatial compression (tennis court example, temporal compression (jimmy fallon example) Similarities are encoded by identifying differences: within a frame --- spatial, between frames --- temporal. Spatial: looks for similarity within a frame looks for similarities within a frame. Temporal: identifies differences between frames and stores them relative to a keyframe.
