Largest group army, people in powered being carried, children being sexually exploited. Lots of people refuse to turn to cannibalism and commit suicide instead. Communes people who exist in larger social groups, but we don"t get to see them typically have barricades around them. We do not learn how this world came into being only that there was a bright light and a sound. Bright light raises possibility of nuclear disaster, comet, etc. If it"s nuclear, we did it ourselves; if not, it"s just chance. Not the focus of the story survival. No one really knows what happens makes them vulnerable.
