Involves all the manipulations of a film: framing, lens, chemistry of light registration, focus, camera movement, time of shot. General term for all manipulation of the film strip by the camera in the shooting phase and by the lab in the developing phase. Contrast: difference between the brightest and darkest areas within the frame. Exposure: regulates how much light passes through the camera lens, can be affected by filters. Tinting: accomplished by dipping the already developed film into a bath of dye. Film is a series of still photos put together to create the illusion of movement. Film can move the viewer: shot one interrupted image with a single static or mobile framing, take one uninterrupted run of the camera. Color: celloid, digital, speed of stock how fast is the film compared to light. Film speed: size, depth of objects in relation to where they are placed in view, speed of motion.
