Ibuprofen is more potent because it takes less of a concentration to administer the same effect. Efficacy is the ability of a drug to elicit a response when it binds to its receptor: dependent on number of drug receptor complexes. Although d(cid:396)ug a a(cid:374)d d(cid:396)ug b ha(cid:448)e diffe(cid:396)e(cid:374)t ec50 (cid:858)s the(cid:455) still ha(cid:448)e the sa(cid:373)e effi(cid:272)a(cid:272)(cid:455) because they peter off at about the same level. Drug a has a lower ec50 in the analgesic example but drug b has a greater efficacy so it would be better to relieve their pain more efficiently. In this case kd does not equal ec50. Spare receptors are no different from any other type of receptor. Same x axis but on the y axis we have the effect over the maximal effect. Youre almost getting 100% of the effect at less than 100% receptors being used. Explained through the amplification of the signal given off by the drug.
