Church - works for pope, his is doing an injustice, village rises up and kills evil dude. Negative view of monks in film is inability to understand religion. Religion is expression of culture and world view, it can be selected because it aligns with world view, influences world view. Must renounced physical world to focus spiritual world through leaving property, common human ties, and practicing asceticism: somehow the physical desires of the body can lead us away so it is the practice of curving away from physical desire.
