Awareness of sexual oppression and abuses are becoming current events. Advent of feminism since the second wave womens movement in the 60s, increased travel, more human rights organizations, increased in media/internet/television which brings more and more attention to the issue. We will talk about female circumcision or clitorectomy, rape in the context of war. Sexual revolution had really lost steam by the late 70s but the final nail in the coffin of sexual revolution was the emergence of aids. Three ideas that helped alleviate the aids crisis: education, medical intervention, general compassion about people that had aids. The problem is when the aids crisis first hit all of these three things were in short supply and as a result the solutions to aids were sort of delayed.
