Sir walter raleigh -> very rich, a wealthy upper class british man, a favourite of. Wanted britain to have a stake in what was going on. He was trying to get queen elizabeth to fund a voyage. He was not an explorer, he was a guy who would fund a voyage. They believed that it was a good place for britain to begin a settlement in the new world. Raleigh funds another bigger expedition in 1587 - permanent voyage. This voyage included the families of the original settlers, women and was john white. children. John white was so committed to what raleigh was doing that he brought along born. 3 weeks later after arriving the child was child born in the new world - american. Initially, relations with the natives were peaceful. English settlers knew that they needed help, therefore there was dialogue and trade.
