Document Summary

Muscles of the pelvic girdle and lower limbs. This group is also known as the hip flexors. The psoas major and psoas minor are known collectively as the psoas muscles because they do the same thing. Before they get to their distal attachment, they combine with the iliacus muscle. The iliacus muscle surrounds the inner side of the iliac crest. As it courses distally, it combines with the psoas major and psoas minor; at this point, it becomes the iliopsoas. The iliopsoas comes and attaches distally on the lesser trochanter of the femur. The first 15 degrees of a situp involve the iliopsoas muscle. These muscles are innervated by the femoral nerve. It originates from the anterior superior iliac spine and distally attaches to the goose"s foot. Rectus femoris is a straight muscle (quadriceps muscle) that originates off of the anterior inferior iliac spine.
