Health Sciences 2300A/B Lecture Notes - Lecture 20: Phalanx Bone, Peroneus Longus, Malleolus
Document Summary
We have lateral, anterior and posterior compartments. Inversion- place inwards; eversion- foot outwards- controlled by anterior compartment. Muscle planta flex, toes far from shin as possible, taking a flex, and eversion. Posterior is straight forward but have 2 layers. Flex the knee, some of the muscle cross the knee joint. Common origin: fibula and tibia- stationary bones. Insertion points, tell you what the muscles do. Tibialis anterior, common origin: fibula and tibia, inserts to base of the first metatarsals - crosses the shin, dorsi flexion, invert a foot. Extensor hallucis longus- one of two muscles (brevis), causes extension of the big toe, goes to the base of distal phalanx. Extensor digitorum longus- same action, digit 2-5, distal phalanx. Fibularis tertius-small muscle, some people refer to muscle located in lateral compartment, going to the base on distal phalanx of digit no. 5, evertor. Common fibular nerve branches to the deep fibula n and the superficial fibula n.
