Document Summary

Muscles of the pectoral girdle and upper limbs. Pectoral girdle: muscles that move the shoulder: anterior. Subclavius muscle (means underneath clavicle), stabilizes the clavicle, attaches to the first rib therefore assisting in forced breathing- subclavian nerve innervates subclavian muscle. Pectoralis minor- from rib 3 to rib 5 or middle- attaches to coracoid process of scapula, innervation is via the pectoral nerve. Serratus anterior-originates off ribs 1-8, inserts under scapula onto the medial border of the scapula. Attaches to ribs so muscle involved in respiration. Innervation is the long thoracic nerve- keeps scapula tight to back of rib cage- pulls medial border of scapula back to the rib cage- protects shoulder girdle from damage, reduces chance of clavicle to break. Winging scapula- scapula moves to sides of the shoulder laterally- causes clavicle to break often, Coracobrachialis- attaches to coracoid process of scapula- innervated by musculocutaneous nerve: posterior.
