In the early 1900s, most individuals died at home: dying has become more institutionalized. The majority of deaths now occur in health care institutions. Society struggles with the roles that government and regulatoryand regulatory bodies play in providing care at life"s end: dying has become more medicalized. Before 1900s - dying process was shorter. Now, people live longer with terminal illnesses: arentaren"t dying at home, dying at nursing homes and hospitals, process was much shorter, now we see that people are living longer with various terminal illness. The dying trajectory describes variations in the dying process that varythat vary by duration and shape: Time vs health status, some people just die. Terminal disease, there"s a steady and progressive decline (getting worse over time) Third pattern, difference between second and third: health status, doing well but get a chronic illness, third pattern is you have an illness, your health status is declined.
