Social determinants of health: a set of factors that act together to influence the health of individuals and communities, there is a social gradient". Inequality & health/social probs: in more equal societies, life expectancy, child wellbeing, literacy, and trust are all better. Infant mortality, obesity, teenage pregnancy, homicide rates, and incidence of mental illness are all lower: social as a whole suffers when there is inequality. It"s not easy for people with low literacy level to get a job: unemployment & job insecurity, employment, provides income, a sense of identity, and helps to structure day-to-day life, ex. Invest in social service: government should spend less on healthcare (which is sickness care) & more on social programs. If 1 cent more were spent on social services for every 1 dollar spent on health.
