Kinesiology 2236A/B Lecture 33: 33
Document Summary
Pitcher with a lax shoulder who toes-out a bit much increased force at shoulder during cocking phase. Gymnast with hip pain secondary to a lordotic spine. Cross country runner with anterior knee pain. Improved by use of plumb line or screen. Looking for significant variability: only obvious asymmetries should be considered. Back of ear should line up with shoulder which should line up with greater trochanter that goes behind the patella, and through the front of the malleolus. Things to look for: head tilted eyes level unequal, shoulders unequal, scapulae unequal, trunk flexed to one side unequal distance from body to arm, hips, knees and malleoli equal height unequal from side to side. Usually associated with forward head posture: needed to keep eyes level. Anterior shift of the entire pelvis: results in hip extension. Thoracic segment shifts posteriorly: causes flexion of thorax. Net effect is a decrease in lordosis and increase in kyphosis: flatback.
