Document Summary

Need to decide where the pain is. True tendon pain is usually confined to the tendon itself. Inflammation of the bursa that is between the tendon and calcaneus. Pain just above the insertion of the achilles tendon. Pain with squeeze from side like pinching. Can have exostosis (callus) which causes ongoing problems. Often due to excessive friction or by wearing shoes that are too tight/large. Take tension of from rubbing on the shoe. Use donut pad to put pressure around it but not on it. Achilles stretch via gastroc & soleus stretch. Achilles is a combined tendon of gastroc and soleus. Tendon has no synovial sheath but is surrounded by paratenon. Only vascular tendons are surrounded by paratenon. Runners have 15x greater risk of rupture and 30x greater risk of tendonitis because all force to propel themselves is generated through this tendon. Tendinitis is inflammation of the tendon itself and is relatively rare.
