Kinesiology 2236A/B Lecture Notes - Lecture 16: 2Degrees, Tendinosis, Subtalar Joint
Document Summary
Need to decide exactly where the pain is! True tendon pain is usually confined to the tendon itself; not around. Inflammation of the bursa that is between the tendon and calcaneus. Pain just above the insertion of the achilles tendon. Can have exostosis (callus) which causes ongoing problems. Often due to excessive friction or by wearing shoes that are too tight or too large. Down lower when you poke at the heel. Heel lift- tension off of the tendon, also lifts off the shoe. Achilles stretch via gastroc (straight leg) and soleus (bent leg) stretch. Pad- use a donut to not make it worse. Achilles is a combined tendon of gastroc and soleus. Tendon has no synovial sheath but is surrounded by paratenon: only vascular tendons are surrounded by paratenon. Runners have 15x greater risk of rupture & 30x greater risk of tendinosis. Tendinitis- inflammation of the tendon itself and is relatively rare.
