Kinesiology 2241A/B Lecture Notes - Lecture 18: Lift Coefficient, Airfoil, Density Of Air
Document Summary
What happens when you apply different pressures to different objects. Need this principle to have the force of lift. Also need an object that defined by its shape, creates difference with velocities of flow that manufactures difference in pressures stall: Object"s angle of attack: long axis of object relative to oncoming flow of air (instantaneous velocity vector) Difference b/w lines is angle of attack. If go too far and have a lot of drag and little lift, not optimal. Too little of angle of attack, minimize drag but have no lift in symmetrical object (discus) Help with something shaped like air foil (wing) as well. Physical manifestation of drag is turbulence (cavitation is synonymous term)- visually see drag. Maximize lift force by creating an optimal angle of attack or shaping projectile like an airfoil. Minimize drag force with a moderate angle of attack.
