Father of neuroscience ramon y cajal 1852-1934 - noble prize - 1906. The motorneuron: soma (cell body) ventral portion of gray matter in sc. L 4,5 motorneurons: the axon that leaves the cell towards the muscle is really long, axon of lumbar motorneurons ends up in the foot muscles, dendrites- receiving information from other cells. Cells connect/communicate to one another though axons and dendrites through a synaptic connection: synapse: electrical or chemical junction between neural tissues. Site of information control: where axon terminal meets target cell, allows the system control. All motor neurons that innervate quads are in the same tight packed region. Not just random in the spinal cord, there are regionalized. Axon efferent traffic covered by organized myelin (lipid); nodes of ranvier: efferent = leaving the cell. Axon hillock generation of ap control point: starts at the beginning of the axon.
