Document Summary
Emergency in sport is threatening either life or limb. Preparation, triage, primary survey, resuscitate/stabilize, focused history, secondary survey, reassessment, definitive care. Preparation: most important part in sport medicine and emergencies in sport, two types of preparation: before and during the event. Before: emergency action plan, what type of event are you dealing with, equipment, do you need to bring an aed to the game or is there one already, training, to recognize what type of injury/emergency it is, environment. Triage: triage determines how fast you should do something. Then deal with limbs: airway, breathing, circulation/ hemorrhage, disability, exposure/environment. If you find something during the primary survey, deal with it: help people during the primary survey, ex. if they don"t have an airway, provide an airway. Examples of emergencies and primary survey: javelin hitting the official. Airway can be in the mouth or it can be in the neck as well: types of emergencies, choking, anaphylaxis- allergy.
