Document Summary

Safety of older drivers is a serious concern they are at risk for crash-related injuries/death because of their frailty and decreased sensory/cognitive/physical function. We need to design a system that addresses the needs/limitations of older drivers. Aging population there will be an increase in older drivers and this aging population is likely to travel more using motor vehicles in comparison to earlier cohorts. It is good for older adults to maintain their license as long as possible to maintain independence but we need to think of their safety as well. Although they don"t necessarily get in that many crashes, they are the group at highest risk mostly due to their frailty/reduced biomechanical tolerance to crash forces. After statistical correction, the authors reported that older drivers" (and especially older female drivers") over representation in fatalities could be explained mainly by frailty, accounting for around 60 90 percent of the fatalities.
