Ms. neto diagnosed with bipolar disorder and was being treated with lithium. Objected to ant-psychotic drugs that she was prescribed; in last hospital admission. Doctor found her incapable of making treatment decision-> based on the fact that ms. Neto refused to acknowledge that she had a bipolar disorder or manic and had delusional belief about lithium and medication. Held that she was able to understand the information relevant to her treatment. Majority found her to not have the ability to appreciate the reasonable foreseeable consequences of consenting or refusing consent. Court stated that the key issue in determining if the patients can appreciate the consequences f their treatment decisions is whether they have the ability to evaluate relevant information. 1st-> patient does not have the admit they are mentally ill. But, must acknowledge that they are affected by manifestations of what others call a mental illness.
