Often associated with foreign travel or domestic camping: surface water if far from civilization is pure and can be consumed without treatment. False: any kind of surface water is generally going to be laden with all manner of microbes (microbial and protozoal) Only exception is hot springs or well sunken into a naturally filtering environment. Longer incubation period than bacteria and viruses.
