Climbing over the 3 levels of defence mechanisms (intrinsic, innate and acquired immunity) ensures. Why is skin not a good host? (a: always shedding, skin=dead cells=>violates rule of biology) Viruses are everywhere, can infect us and cause disease but sometimes we dont know it. Replication and transmission still highly likely and able =>virus is dependent on host. Flaviridae (west nile virus)= +rna( ready to go ) with envelope, nucleocapsid, spread by mosquitoes can be transmitted thru blood donation. Transmitted by mosquitoe to human first case in western hemisphere in 1999, nyc. If an emerging viruses are not existent in one part of the world, would not test for these type of virus (cant test for a virus you dont know of) No idea what the virus was, 80% of infected didnt have any symptoms. Tried to measure the sequence of the virus=> new york wnv and israel wnv are almost identical.
