Stressors are the demands that cause people stress. Strains are ve consequences that occur in response to stress. Transactional theory of stress- explains how stressful demands are perceived and appraised, as well as how people respond to perceptions of appraisals. Primary appraisal- evaluation of whether a demand is stressful, and it it is, the implications of the stressor in terms of personal goals and well being. Benign job demand- job demands that are not appraised as being stressful. Hindrance- stress that tend to be appraised has delaying progress towards growth and achievement: often trigger ve emotions. Challenge- stressors tend to be appraised as chances for growth and achievement. Role conflict- conflicting expectations of what someone needs to do in a role. Role ambiguity- lack of direction and information about what needs to be done in a role.
