Political economy of media deals with the relation between power (politics), wealth (economics) and media. Corporate political economy is concerned with issues of ownership, organization, production, advertising and labour to figure out how to make bigger profits, (cid:494)monetizing(cid:495) media content. Critical political economy is concerned with all these issues too but with the aim of reforming (e. g. reduce inequalities and ecological devastation) or revolution replacement by another system. The culture industry: in capitalist society, becomes crucial aspect of way in which we socialize in a society that runs on the exchange of goods (commodities) Concentration of ownership: i. e. domination by a few firms. Conglomerates: that own a lot of other companies e. g. films, comics, tv stations, game studios, theme parks. Franchises: that spin characters, stories and universes from one media property across multiple outlets. Media firms get its money from promotional culture.
