Nurses" ways of knowing: use of assessment tools. Primary care is the first entry into the healthcare system; ex. Primary care is more illness focused; follows medical model. Primary health care includes primary care but also includes health". Rather than being illness, it also brings in wellness. More of preventative measure coming in, particularly primary prevention. What ways of knowing are apparent in assessment of family and community: empirical, ethical, aesthetic, personal, emancipatory critical theory; change. The process of enabling people to increase control over and improve their health. Who 5 key principles of health promotion: building healthy public policy, creating supportive environments, strengthening community action, developing personal skills, reorienting health services. Is the health of a population, as measured by health-status indicators and as influenced by social, economic, and physical environmental personal health practices; individual capacity and coping skills; human biology; early childhood development; and health services. Government has out funding for things like smoking cessation programs.
