Nursing 3920A/B Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Acute Pancreatitis, Peptic Ulcer, Common Bile Duct
Document Summary
**two things should come to mind when you think of pancreaiis: Acute pancreaiis causes a lot of pain (it is at the top of the hierarchy of the sickest of the sick) When someone has pancreaiis, you can"t feed them because pancreaic enzymes are needed for digesion. When people get gastric ulcers, they are making more digesive juices because of their level of anxiety: if you don"t eat regularly, those digesive juices corrode the top of the duodenum (which leads to ulcers) Alcohol abuse and gallstones are the main triggers of acute pancreaiis: other causes: trauma (gi surgery, ercp), bacterial or viral infecions, duodenal ulcer, cysts, abscesses, cf (too much mucus is formed and clogs the body), Varies from mild edema to severe hemorrhagic necrosis: you are staring to digest your own organ because those juices will start digesing whatever issue they are in contact with. Occurs most oten in middle-age; and men much more than women.
