Philosophy 1020 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Unmoved Mover, Bertrand Russell
Document Summary
The five ways to prove god exists: from facts about motion (or change) Whatever is in motion or change is put in motion by another. If something can be changed into something, it already has the potential to be changed. Things can"t be changed from one state to another unless something else is changing them: from facts about causation. There are things in the world caused by other things. God has to be the unmoved mover. Argument in hobbes that there has to be an authority that stops somewhere: from facts about possibility and necessity. We find in nature, things that are possible to be and not to be. Some things only possibly exist, the world can be the world without these things. If something is there but could not have possibly not been, there must have been a time it wasn"t there.
