Liberal subject (you are a rational being as as so you are an autonomous being) . Autonomous (you are free to make decisions as a rational being and these decisions are based on preferences) . Preferences (what you choose to consume as press) (you are part of a social contract by being a rational being and you hold certain rights)(the state should be neutral and should not dictate how you live your life) As citizens we are part of many contracts in which we can enter and leave. Mill - we need diversity because it is good for us. Paradox: individual has the autonomy to undermite his or her autonomy. You own yourself and you should have to autonomy to do as you please so long as you don"t violate someone else"s autonomy. By getting good information, you enrich your autonomy. If the media is serving us well, it will provide good information and improve our autonomy.
