Physics 1402A/B Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Magnetic Monopole, Electric Field, Force Works
Document Summary
There are many types of fields that exist. We spent an entire semester analyzing how a charge distribution causes an electric field. This field which exerts a force on another electric charge. This is a fundamental property of material, creating this thing called a field. This field is then able to exert a force on other materials that share similar a property. Magnetic fields are similar to electric fields in the sense that they exert a force on charge particles. However, the fundamental properties that generate this and the details of how the force works are different. Magnetic materials have a north pole and a south pole. When two similar poles are brought close together, they repel. When two opposite poles are brought together, they attract. Just like an electric field, the magnetic field can be drawn either field lines.
